SEEING GOD IN ACTION

Brokenness & Beauty

“The poor and the oppressor have this in common: the Lord gives light to the eyes of both.”Proverbs 29:13, NET

All people are in need of God – both those who are suffering and those who cause others to suffer. Only God can heal the brokenness of God’s people.

Walking The Line

“So I said, ‘The thing that you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God…?'”Nehemiah 5:9, NET

We often walk the dangerous line of thinking that we are in control, that we know right from wrong and good from evil. Spending time with God gives us proper perspective to see our place in this world.

Child Of God

‘But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name – he has given the right to become God’s children’John 1:12, NET

Having a relationship with Jesus makes us Children of God, and we have the power to represent the family of God. When we serve God and follow Jesus we tap into that potential power.

A Blessing

‘Then I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, so that you will exemplify divine blessing.’Genesis 12:2, NET

From the very beginning of God’s covenant with human being, there has been a desire for God to bless. Along with the gift of blessings comes the expectation to share that which we have received. You are a blessing, be a blessing.

Harmony & Balance

‘Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people.’Romans 12:16-18, NET

Harmony and Balance, are not the same, nor do either mean, “The Same”, yet we use these words and labels to suggest they both mean, “The Same” and can be used interchangeably. It’s a mess. If this is confusing, try understanding how to apply this in relationships, in faith, and in the world.

No Amigo For The Ego

‘Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.’Romans 12:15, NET

Rejoice really is a cool word. You want to know why I particularly like this word? It suggests doing it all over again! Celebrate! Share! Engage! And what’s even better is it seems to have the ability to spread in an organic way. Sharing those moments should be obvious, but what is going on when we can’t?

Yes. You!

I heard the voice of the sovereign master say, “Whom will I send? Who will go on our behalf?” I answered, “Here I am, send me!”Isaiah 6:8, NET

When asked to jump, the question was not, for how long, but how high. It is your typical “drill sergeant” test of commitment. It is also a way of sharing an expectation. Let me suggest another alternative, instead of asking anything, do your best to do what was being asked period.

Epiphany or Ah-ha

“On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”Matthew 2:10-12, NET

He was shaking his crib. It is his way of announcing to the world, the house, he is awake. So, I walk in from the kitchen, slowly opening the door, allowing the squeaking of the hinge to add to the excitement of a new morning, to find the wide-eyed smile of my son.

Character, Pressure, and Faith

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God. And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” – Colossians 3:16-17, NET

It’s easy to be on your best behavior or exhibit your best manners when all is going well, however the real test of character is when we’re under pressure. How do you handle life when you are being squeezed?

Abundant Life, Faith, & Doubt

“So Jesus said to them again, ‘I tell you the solemn truth, I am the door for the sheep. All who came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved, and will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.’” John 10:7-10, NET

Everyone has faith. Those who doubt they have any are actually exercising faith that they doubt it in the first place.
